An Open Letter To Randy Shaw

DearMr. Shaw,
I am sure that you are familiar with the old adage ” People who live in a glass house
should not throw stones “. y ou write prolifically about SEIU and countless other
organizations’ undemocratic ways of doing business but never about the undemocratic
ways that Randall Shaw deals with THC’s rank and file Union members {people of
color} .Is this behavior a lack of maturity or you just do not give a damn?
I am perplexed as to why your double standard of dealing with people of color is so
malicious when they are not absolutely in line with your agenda. In fact, your actions
conveyan identity as Mr. Duplicity instead ofMr. Pro Labor.
Under your leadership, Tenderloin Housing Clinic removed 2 Shop Stewards from their
worksites because they stood up for workers rights under the collective bargaining
agreement. I was investigated under false charges and the findings from the investigation
were never presented to me. Why was the Housing Department Shop Steward position
suddenly and unilaterally terminated? THC management does not take grievances
seriously. Harassment, wrongful firings, prohibiting union members from speaking to
other members all occurs on your watch. Your efforts to portray yourself as progressive
and pro-labor fall very short of that goal and writing a book about your Union busting
comrades does not get you off the hook. What about a book detailing the duplicitous
tricks you have played such as transferring me from my job site in retaliation for my
work bringing to light the blatant discriminatory practices and nepotism practiced by your
organization? You have undermined the union contract by being in bed with SEIU
management, circumventing the grievance procedures agreed upon in the collective
bargaining agreement with your employees.
The citizens of San Francisco and City Hall have been good to you and your family,
funding THC for many years, however you have been self -serving, acting with impunity
and an out of control sense of entitlement. How many working families have you put out
of work because of your unethical practices? I challenge you to represent the community
in a positive way -right now -you have absolutely no credibility. Your work should
reflect your mission statement. The time has come for you to “MAN UP” and come out
of cyberspace for a minute or two. Your racist ways of dealing with people of color must
change yes we MUST have some” SOCIAL CHANGE” at THC. Stop being the JOKE of
the community!
No accountability
In the years that you have been Executive Director, ethics has been on the bottom of the
list when dealing with workers. Perhaps the time has come for the City of San Francisco
to establish civilian oversight of how YOU go about your Bullying ways of dealing with
people in the workplace. If stiff penalties, fines and imprisonment were ill place,
accountability would be the norm. Until laws are put in place and your buddies cease in
their complicity, we, the rank and file members of Unions will continue the good fight
against Racism, Collusion, unfair labor practices etc. in the workplace.
Laborfest was established in 1994 to commemorate the San Francisco General Strike
and West Coast Waterfront strike. This year is the 75th anniversary of these historic
events for working people. Laborfest is not for Racist Union Busters. SHAME! SHAME!
And another SHAME on your buddies for allowing you to promote your locating your
Union Buster buddies and letting the world know what the hell they are doing. For more
