This recording is uncompressed and has a very wide dynamic range, so watch out. Most recordings, even classical ones on CD, are compressed to make it compatible with most home stereos and radio. This recording also does not have the echo and room acoustics found in a symphony hall, so it might sound a little strange for people used to that. In that respect, it’s quite unusual to hear the San Francisco Symphony this way, but it’s also much closer and cleaner to what they sound like. Front row seats and an unobstructed view of the stage and the sound system. The program information on to todays free concert is here. Believe it or not, some of the noises you hear are actually the musicians turning their pages, which is picked up by their own mics and sent over the loudspeaker – something that is usually carefully deleted on official releases
