Terry Childs and Shotspotter

“We were able to regain complete control of the network Tuesday,” said Ron Vinson, the deputy director of the city’s Department of Technology Information Services. From Wired, Jul 22, 2008

well?..Do they have control of it or not? Wasn’t that the whole reason why Childs didn’t want to give up the passwords because his higher ups didn’t have a clue?

Terry Childs is being blamed for holding up Shotspotter, the gunshot detection system that uses the Fiberwan network. Of course, this was all running fine when Childs was running it, and of course he built the system. The system is actually still running perfectly. The reason why it’s a problem now is because the passwords Childs is/has/given up withholding is in an area that requires changing the Fiberwan system. see here for more

I have a solution for this. The city can take him out of jail and put him to work in shackles and leg chains, since he’s obviously dangerous with the 5 million dollar bail imposed. And parade him around city hall and the city network and city offices all over where he can make the necessary changes to implement the remaining Shotspotter system, which he helped put in there in the first place.

All day long city employees and probably the public can watch Terry say “pickin it up boss’ “making password changes boss”…”Configuring the routers boss” ….”damn, you shot that turtle good boss”
