All this good news has not changed two longtime trouble spots: the first block of Turk Street, and the parking lot at Turk and Hyde.

My organization, the Tenderloin Housing Clinic, has invested considerable time and money in recent months on improving the first block of Turk, and crime is down 25% and violent crime down 36% from May to November 2011. But this progress would not be recognized if you walk down the street.

We have ongoing meetings with every component of law enforcement, and the Tenderloin Police are totally committed to addressing the street’s problems. But the failure of the approved City Place shopping center on Market to move forward was a setback, and the entire south side of the first block of Turk is entirely abandoned. A hedge fund now controls both sites.

Dude!. Randy!..You’re going after your own clients!. That’s your bread and butter! Wait till the crack cartel here’s about this. You’ll never be able to recover your street cred after they find out about this

‘wake your ass up -don’t fuck with me – I need to borrow your pipe’

Unfortunately this is also not compatible with what the Chronicle has been telling people in their editorials about people being kept off the streets once housed in supportive SRO housing

Through a succession of mayors and ballot measures, the city has changed from periodic crackdowns (no-parking laws for camper vehicles) to indifference (makeshift camps at Civic Center Plaza). Then San Francisco opened a string of homeless shelters, scratched its head at the so-so results and tried again with Care Not Cash, which substituted hotel rooms and counseling for welfare checks.

The end policy was a real innovation over prior efforts. Thousands of wandering homeless people were given treatment and taken off the streets. But thousands remain, despite the tens of millions spent each year.

Because here’s another one of Randy Shaw’s housed clients getting arrested at the Civic Center farmers market. It’s worth noting that the San Francisco Police Department still refuses to release information on arrested individuals by resident address – unless reporters are willing to invoke the ‘freedom of information act’ which can easily prove by physical address if this person was or was not a “housed’ THC resident, like so many others in Mid Market > because that arrested person still resides at 34 6th Street to this day

Second, since our problems are largely due to irresponsible property owners, concerted action to address their conduct must be taken. Mayor Newsom’s help is essential here.

You mean every irresponsible property owner/manager except you, right?
