This Bluoz author actually worked at the HANC recycling center almost 20 years ago smashing glass by hand…I think I was the last person to do it before Cal-Osha banned it. HANC Fights Eviction Picks Up Key Support Local Democratic Party, Park Activists, Hollywood Actor Say “Keep itâ€
The Haight-Ashbury Neighborhood Council Recycling Center and Native Plant Nursery has picked up more significant support in its fight to rescind its eviction by the General Manager of the Recreation and Parks Department.
The local Democratic Party Central Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the Recycling Center at its January 26th meeting. The 33 member body counted only two no votes against the resolution coming from the proxies for Scott Wiener and Gavin Newsom.
The Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee voted 9-4 in favor of a pro- HANC resolution at its January 4th meeting.

HANC is urging its supporters to turn out to the February 14th Board of Supervisors’ Committee on Operations and Neighborhood Services hearing. “Come show your love for HANC this Valentines Dayâ€, says HANC’s Executive Director Ed Dunn, “if you can’t make it send them a card, or maybe even flowers, I mean native plants!â€.
