I used to live near 6th & Howard, back when the area was full of “sink-in-the-room hotels”. There was no overt drug problem then. Winos, yes. Low income retirees, an interesting mix of alternate life-style and artist types, dirt cheap stores, bars, and restaurants, yes. A sense of community, yes. Drug fueled desperation, no-way that was happening! The area wasn’t as pretty then as it is now. DiFi hadn’t become mayor yet. No feces on the streets either. Speaking of DiFi, she’s the one who, after tearing down all the low rent hotels (remember the Mars?) for her hubbies Mosconie Center project, thus sparking many of these problems we have today, refused to allow public toilets to be set up! She declared they’d become “cesspools of human waste.” So instead, our sidewalks and streets have become actual cesspools of human waste.

ddd_video isn’t the only one who remembers The Mars on 4th Street
