When the Plant opened in 1972, it was a one of three Record Plant studios in the country. The others were in New York and Los Angeles.
It’s colorful history includes a lot of great music and a lot of hard partying and superstar craziness. At the opening night gala, for instance, John Lennon and Yoko Ono showed up dressed as trees.

The local preservation effort is being led by Mari “Mack” Tamburo, a singer who lives in Mill Valley with her husband, former Plant owner and engineer Arne Frager.

“The building is in limbo,” she says. “There’s been a lot of misinformation about its status, but the bank owns it. We’re engaged in a capital campaign in hopes of making an offer on it.”
