Randy Shaw, head of Tenderloin Housing Clinic and publisher of Beyondchron often writes about progressive issues and labor rights, including his new book on labor activist Cesar Chavez. It's ironic, because it appears that Randy Shaw doesn't believe any of these principles when it comes to his own company, running it more like a dictatorship than anything else. This is shameful considering Randy Shaw and Tenderloin Housing Clinic is nearly 100& funded by the City and County of San Francisco through our board of supervisors. Jeoflin Roh, founder of the Central City SRO, of which these documents are the subject, was warned about this very thing when they needed to become a non profit

Randy Shaw apparently retaliated because on Oct 20, the following was signed by nearly all of his Tenderloin Housing Clinic staff

all of this resulted in a complaint filed with the National Labor Relations Board against Randy Shaw, where all of these documents are on file






He earns over $100,000 per year to write articles, fund personal projects, play favoritism and he could care less about the population or employees. Look at the website. The website is about promoting Randy. The City needs to audit his misuse of funds. The Finance Director is good at fudging the numbers to hide how the money is really being used.
I can only hope that this individual will one day find peace. This campaign of hate has drained our membership of its energy and chased countless union members away from meetings.

Randy Shaw sounds like a bully who is so busy with self promotion, that he has no time to bother with the 'little people' who work under him.
Too bad, his foolishness lost him a dedicated asset, such is Nate.

Hierarchical power structures are designed to elicit authoritarian impulses, not to empower working people to get their job done in partnership with the community.
At the end of the day, and this happens across divergent issues, it is all about getting paid and maintaining control to ensure that you can continue to get paid, and that has nothing to do with delivering results from public and grant dollars.
These nonprofits need to be democratized with formalized independent community and constituent representation on boards of directors, and general membership meetings to play the role of shareholders, checking the boards and staff.

The pretentiousness exhibited by certain crony employees, as if superior (clearly hallucinating) is outright shameful, unusually exhibited by men, or women for that matter,the kind of conduct just usually not witnessed, a real bad sign here and causing many problems in the work place, also illegal, whether subtle or blatant, as it's both.
Randy Shaw's utterly disrespectful and intimidating ill behavior and actions for years now has been in substantial violation of employees, union agreements, city and county funding agreements, state and federal laws and has to cease sooner than later.
Nate was an outstanding employee for years, somewhat recently being terminated illegally without question and deserves much better basic decent treatment that everyone should always receive, period. While always fulfilling his employee duties very well, he has for years gone considerably out of his way to help many others, hundreds in fact over the years, those often in most need in relation to his duties, as this is also his genuine nature, undoubtedly helping many as indicated above and even literally and significantly contributing to saving lives, which many will testify themselves. This man, Nate, has done his job courageously and maturely in many respects, including his necessary stance against Randy Shaw's violations, illegality, inconsideration and utmost disrespect often completely unwarranted against a number of people, simply because he can and can do so apparently thus far without any accountability whatsoever. Randy Shaw, you can't scare everybody all the time, cowardly-pretentious though you and your cronies definitely are trying to project it into others, the laws will prevail, everyone's laws not restricted to a few, for real.

The Board is ultimately responsible for the actions of the Executive Director. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the actions of his subordinates.
Not enough information has been provided to make a clear assessment of this case. How much people like or dislike someone is not a matter of interest in this case.

I've only had one email exchange with one board member and that person wouldn't talk, saying 'they are not allowed to say anything about any of the internal workings of THC' to anybody outside the ORG
That just isn't right about an ORG completely funded with taxpayer dollars
pretty much everybody who wanted info, including the press, has had to file FOI and Sunshine requests (or court subpoena) to get anything about THC
that's already happened in some cases, and likely to happen in others
of all the issues i would comment on at THC. LGBT issues would probably not be the first one, and peter would also not be on my list of people to target publicly. Also, who calls fred, sarah? :)
there is a lot to say about randy, but id like to save it for another comment or a short book. I will say that i think most of the negative things said about randy in this thread are true. I cannot immediately think of anything positive to say about him or his conduct. That speaks volumes in and of itself. I cannot understand how any sane person would respect randy.
He fires depending on his mood and thinks the union is convenient so he seems to care about employees. Racism, homophobia and sexism are common practice. He makes $100,000 a year. His editor from Beyond Chron is paid from City funds. His attorneys are paid from City funds.
The Case Managers sleep on the job, come in late and leave early and take food home meant for clients. Housing Counselors sit there with nothing to do. The Controller fudges the number to hide how the money is being used to fund Beyond Chron and attorneys.
Take at look at some past postings, certain former employees who were TURNED OUT, still can't take a righteous stand "publicly", instead more concerned with trying to protect former co-workers who have been exposed for what they openly espoused, unable to comment on whether aforementioned former employee did or did not make postings, doesn't mean it wasn't true, furthermore names are quite common, could have been him after all. You were flushed out like a PIG, more than a creep, too dumb to recognize what happened or is it you're on board knowingly or unknowingly(?). For this to happen to Mr. Holmes, basically a SENIOR CITIZEN is downright cruel and definitely personally mean spirited in the most foul and sickening manner. Sit down like older mature experienced and wise human beings, realizing unfortunate things happen sometimes on all sides, everyone is human believe it or not, it's not only you, it's only life, do the right thing, agree to disagree yet reach a common ground, shake hands and be a man about yourself, cause men will do what they do, period, better men, please.
