That&#8217;s much harder to photograph &#8216;in the wild&#8217; because they&#8217;re a lot faster and don&#8217;t stick around for long<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/9640932@N04\/3997082460\/\" title=\"peregrinesml (by auweia)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2518\/3997082460_9e5fd87f7e.jpg\" title=\"peregrinesml (by auweia)\" alt=\"peregrinesml (by auweia)\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>the red tail hawks are a bit slower, and sometimes perch for 10 seconds or longer<\/p>\n<p>this one landed 15 feet from my window today<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/9640932@N04\/3997064060\/\" title=\"P1030099b (by auweia)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2589\/3997064060_dd1e581f9a.jpg\" title=\"P1030099b (by auweia)\" alt=\"P1030099b (by auweia)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and further away<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/9640932@N04\/3997064166\/\" title=\"P1030100a (by auweia)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2626\/3997064166_8afa8e9e58.jpg\" title=\"P1030100a (by auweia)\" alt=\"P1030100a (by auweia)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/9640932@N04\/3996305063\/\" title=\"P1030101a (by auweia)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3446\/3996305063_9b9caff18d.jpg\" title=\"P1030101a (by auweia)\" alt=\"P1030101a (by auweia)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>if you&#8217;re in the mid market area, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th streets, market street near there, a little south of market and some nearby parts of the tenderloin, especially if you see flocks of pigeons flying around like mad<\/p>\n<p>look up, you might see this<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/9640932@N04\/3995996768\/\" title=\"P1030089 (by auweia)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2430\/3995996768_5a11e1913e.jpg\" title=\"P1030089 (by auweia)\" alt=\"P1030089 (by auweia)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>what is attracting them to this area is the large number of people, some of them &#8216;mentally ill&#8217;, who feed the pigeons on a daily basis. Ask the city street sweepers about it sometime. They&#8217;ll tell you about the homeless, semi-homeless (housed) who throw food out the window or dump food on the sidewalk for the pigeons<\/p>\n<p>this, in turn, attracts these birds of prey, who find the large flocks of pigeons an easy feast (compared to the real wilderness)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>first photo taken by a neighbor of mine, mid Market, near 6th street, San Francisco, last year in December of a peregrine falcon.
