Movement: San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, finally moved into their new home in the upper Haight over the weekend – only to have someone promptly defecate and urinate on their doorstep.<\/p>\n

a recent letter the editor<\/a> suggested the mayor walk a few blocks down to Haight street to see that, but it looks like he didn’t have to go that far<\/p>\n

As a resident of the Haight-Ashbury, I welcome Mayor Gavin Newsom and his wife to their new home on upper Masonic
\nI would recommend, however, that His Honor walk down the hill a few blocks to Haight Street itself, where I live.<\/p>\n

There he will see scores of nomadic addicts and alcoholics living on the street. He will watch as they harass passers-by, urinate and defecate on the sidewalks, ditch used needles in planter boxes, throw garbage everywhere and pound on drums around the clock.<\/p>\n

When he first ran for mayor, Newsom promised that he would get this outrageous situation under control. But it has actually gotten worse during his tenure in office.<\/p>\n

Maybe his lieutenants have been misleading him about the facts. Now that he’s a neighbor, he can walk a few blocks downhill, to where humbler folks live, and see for himself.<\/p>\n
