{"id":467,"date":"2008-09-17T14:22:23","date_gmt":"2008-09-17T14:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bluoz.com\/blog\/?p=467"},"modified":"2008-09-17T14:22:23","modified_gmt":"2008-09-17T14:22:23","slug":"San-Franciscos-Free-Wifi-vanishing-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bluoz.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/17\/San-Franciscos-Free-Wifi-vanishing-act\/","title":{"rendered":"San Franciscos Free Wifi vanishing act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muniwireless.com\/2008\/09\/16\/meraki-sf-coverage-not-80-percent\/\">Muni wireless for being the only one so far to see through the B.S.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A whole pile of people parroted the <a href=\"http:\/\/meraki.com\/press-releases\/2008\/09\/16\/meraki-announces-free-public-wifi-available-in-80-of-san-francisco-neighborhoods\/\">press release<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgov.org\/site\/mayor_index.asp?id=88825\">Mayors office<\/a>, from <a href=\"http:\/\/meraki.com\/press-releases\/2008\/09\/16\/meraki-announces-free-public-wifi-available-in-80-of-san-francisco-neighborhoods\/\">online journals<\/a> to just about every <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/x-529-SF-Technology-Examiner~y2008m9d16-Free-the-Net-rolls-on-in-the-Tenderloin\">newspaper<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/sfist.com\/2008\/09\/16\/free_wifi_network_reaches_80_of_san.php\">SFist<\/a> seems to have added a question mark after comments pointed out a little problem with the numbers. Some <a href=\"http:\/\/wifinetnews.com\/archives\/008446.html\">publications caught on a little to the math problem here<\/a>, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2008\/09\/16\/BA1512V0DJ.DTL\">others mentioned the 150,000<\/a> without noticing that 150,000 out of 800,000 isn&#8217;t 80%<\/p>\n<p>Meraki is doing a good thing, IMHO, but pleeeeze with the claims. I even signed up for a repeater myself since I live high enough to cover a good area, right in the very same Tenderloin area Meraki and the Mayors office is claiming to be expanding right now. Meraki never answered back<\/p>\n<p>This is Merakis own map. Does it look like 80% to you?.
