One contribution since radio station KUSF was sold recently<\/a> and in support of the effort to Save KUSF<\/a> (facebook<\/a>)<\/p>\n

from 1991-1996, KUSF hosted a Sunday show called Jive Radio, which had the original DJ’s from KSAN radio, the original underground radio station in the USA. These DJ’s and the radio station are now part of the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame<\/a>. These are the people that broke the San Francisco sound back in the 60’s and 70’s and put San Francisco on the international music scene<\/p>\n

The Jive Radio website<\/a> has a few clips but it’s almost impossible now to hear a complete show, or anything more than a few minutes, except for the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame<\/p>\n

I recorded a few of these revival shows in the 90’s and this one is from October 29, 1995, recorded directly off the airwaves of KUSF (jive radio) onto cassette. This show is hosted by Bobby Dale who died in 2001<\/a><\/p>\n

This is what underground radio in San Francisco used to sound like, even a commercial station like KSAN..It was the first radio station to have ‘free form’ radio without any set list…..no kidding…..These DJ’s and KSAN spawned an entire generation of underground radio, including KUSF (and even bootleg tapes), which is becoming so rare these days, hardly anyone remembers what it sounded like..I grew up on KSAN…This really is what KSAN used to sound like back in the 70’s….enjoy<\/p>\n
