San Francisco drug-incident geographic concentration, 2003–2026

Matched period each year: Jan. 1–Sep. 23. SFPD incident-report rows with valid San Francisco coordinates.
Downtown study area: longitude −122.425 to −122.395 and latitude 37.765 to 37.795. This fixed rectangle was chosen to capture the central-east downtown zone encompassing much of the Tenderloin/Civic Center/Mid-Market/SoMa area. It is a transparent analytical boundary, not an official neighborhood boundary.

Important: the SFPD reporting system changed in 2018. The 2003–2017 and 2018–present series should not be treated as perfectly continuous. Changes within 2018–2026 are therefore especially useful.
