Jan. 1–Sept. 23 • unique Incident Numbers • coordinate-defined 400 m radius
Why radius matters
The ranked intersection list measures highly localized hotspots, but nearby intersections can be pieces of the same street environment. To test that effect, this map counts unique SFPD Incident Numbers inside identical circles around each hotspot center. At a tight
250 m radius,
16th & Mission leads Sixth Street 1,754 to 1,605. At
300 m, Sixth overtakes it
2,297 to 2,042; at
400 m, Sixth leads
3,327 to 2,629. This suggests 16th/Mission is the more intense localized hotspot, while Sixth Street forms the larger surrounding corridor of reported incidents. The result therefore depends on the geographic scale being measured.

Circles are identical radii, so this compares equal geographic areas rather than street-name groupings. SFPD coordinates are anonymized to nearby intersections.
