The Jerry Miller and Terry Haggerty band – Live at Ashkenaz, Berkeley, January 11, 2013

The Jerry Miller and Terry Haggerty band – Live at Ashkenaz, Berkeley, January 11, 2013.

This show is more energetic and longer and than their previous show at Ashkenaz on September 6, 2012. Now they have more songs and more practice and they are getting more popular with more dates including Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Biscuits and Blues in San Francisco

This is recorded at 24 bit, 96khz. Only the first 30 seconds of the first song is missing. Part 1 and 2 is actually the first set split in two because it was more than 90 minutes. The whole show is about 3 hours.

updated January 16, 2013, new EQ with a flatter and brighter sound using a parametric equalizer at the WAV level , slight drop @ 200hz and slight up curve +5db above 3khz. Original unequalized recording is at the bottom

HSB 2012 Doug Sahm’s Phantom Playboys

Doug Sahm’s Phantom Playboys, October, 7, 2012, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

This is something special. Doug Sahm was the founder of the Sir Douglas Quintet and their big hit (at least here in SF) was Mendocino in 1969. Even though Doug Sahm was from Texas, he came to San Francisco in the 60’s to play music. Sahm died in 1999, but the legacy lives on because Boz Scaggs brought a bunch of Texas music veterans to San Francisco for apparently a one time only event for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and pulled it off with flying colors. All of these musicians already have their own tour schedule, including Scaggs, so this could not have been easy and it may never happen again

The band that played HSB was DOUG SAHM’S PHANTOM PLAYBOYS featuring: Dave Alvin, Steve Earle, Delbert McCLinton, Boz Scaggs, Jimmie Vaughan..

recorded at 24 bit/96khz

Dave Alvin’s guitar stolen after Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

posted a few hours ago on Dave Alvins facebook page

Had an amazing and exhausting weekend at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. I have wonderful memories of playing with The Guilty Ones with my dear brother Phil joining us, the tribute to Doug Sahm (with Boz Scaggs, Derek O’Brien, Jimmie Vaughan, Delbert McClinton and Boz’s tough band) and, of course, The Knitters. Sadly, though, these memories are now badly tarnished by the fact that someone (I’m trying to refrain from using profanity) STOLE my beloved Jerry Jones single cutaway Neptune baritone guitar shown in this video. If anyone in the Bay area sees this in any pawn shops or on the streets of San Francisco, please let me know. Thanks.

Red Hot Chili Peppers at Civic Center

Here I am, minding my own business trying to interview somebody at the library and there’s this damn concert next door and it drowned out everything. You can’t even hear the interview, just people screaming. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Anyway, here’s what’s left of the interview….or not
