Drudge and the tire gauge
I rarely quote Matt Drudge but this is beyond ridiculous

[late insert ----dumbass - drudge]
Yes, Drudge, it's come to this, the lowly tire gauge. It is a simple device to measure air pressure in a tire. It is one of those basic inventions that make a huge difference on humanity, kind of like the concept of a basic electronic transistor. You know, like the transistor that enables you to operate Drudge.com
you probably wouldn't know how big of a difference a deflated tire can mean because you drive a car, which means you push your foot down on the gas accelerator to compensate for such a deflated tire, and therefore don't really know how it feels, or how much it burns
But for people who ride a bike, we can tell you with some very accurate results just how much extra energy it takes to get from point A to point B on a half inflated tire as opposed to a full inflated one
It most certainly is something that is measurable in a scientific study and has been done many times before
In fact, don't even ask me about it, ask the long haul truckers you reported about recently, Drudge. Remember them? Those that went on strike about the oil prices?..Ask them about tire pressure..They'll tell ya
You know, the same truckers that bring your food to your local supermarket every day?
yeah, those people

It Can't Happen Here
"It can't happen here" - Frank Zappa
Department of Human Services employees have been arrested in Philadelphia on child abuse charges
Anne Marie Ambrose, commissioner of the Department of Human Services, said she could not explain why some of her 1,900 employees failed to save Danieal after receiving four complaints about her welfare. She could also not explain why that staff had allowed a private contractor working on the girl’s case to neglect her.
I first found out about it from this blog and you can download the Grand Jury PDF from there. The Grand Jury PDF is the most shocking and has a photo of the abuse.
you can also download the Grand Jury report directly from here
Just keep repeating "it can't happen here, it can't happen here"
It’s true that in Danieal’s case, a private agency demonstrated callous indifference towards her plight, even as it was busy forging paperwork and bilking taxpayers for nonexistent services rendered.
But it could get away with it because its customer, the Philadelphia DHS, was complicit in its crimes. One administrator even admitted to the grand jury that falsifying and backdating reports was common practice at the agency
Gee, wonder if that's common practice with San Francisco Department of Human Services?
It can't happen here, could it? I've seen an awful lot of people carried out on stretchers over the years at one SF DHS contractor
From the Philadelphia Grand Jury report

On a curious side note, Tenderloin Housing Clinic only very recently started the practice of checking on their clients in their rooms once a week. They didn't before, and people would only know because of the smell, and I don't know if this has anything to do with it
Remember, things like this do not show up in audits. They only get detected and fixed when people speak up
The non disclosure agreements that Randy Shaw forces all of his (Tenderloin Housing Clinic - primary contractor to San Francisco DHS)) employees to sign explicitly prohibits something like this from being made public, even if it does happen

good morning
and a fine Sunday morning it is. Was it a wild weekend? I know the party going around in that fake cable car had a wild night. Did you wake up this morning in a back alley in Tripoli with a rag doll? Not feeling so well?...Ted has some advice for ya

the bashful blogger
I dunno anybody like this, gosh no. Do you?
Maybe this is a good example of the 'bashful' Olympic torch run in SF, eh?
People traveled thousands of miles to see this only to have the torch run changed at the last minute across the city in the Marina where only a few hundred saw it. This is likely a once in a lifetime event for San Francisco
and now it's gone, and very few people got to see it...because our beloved mayor got stage fright..bashful..scared..frightened at the possibility of protests
I'm thoroughly embarrassed now, as a citizen of SF (see video)
have a nice weekend

wikileaks down but not out
update > judge reverses ruling
Just issued by US District court right here in San Francisco, wikileaks.org whistle blower website has been shut down
BBC News article here while The Guardian is shocked!
But the real story is about the Barbra Streisand effect and the hacker war/censorship battle happening here and here
see secure update partial public list of Wikileaks Cover Names for alternative URLs which have not yet been censored.
the actual wikileaks.org website without the domain name http://88.80.13.160/wiki/Wikileaks

US court attacks web freedom; enjoins Wikileaks.org out of existence

One of the most important web sites in recent months has been Wikileaks.org. Created by several brave journalists committed to transparency, Wikileaks has published important leaked documents, such as the Rules of Engagement for Iraq [see my The Secret Rules of Engagement in Iraq], the 2003 and 2004 Guantanamo Camp Delta Standard Operating Procedures, and evidence of major bank fraud in Kenya [see also here] that apparently affected the Kenyan elections. Wikileaks has upset the Chinese government enough that they are attempting to censor it, as is the Thai military junta.
Now censorship has extended to the United States of America, land of the First Amendment. As of Friday, February 15, those going to Wikileaks.org have gotten Server not found messages. Today I received a message explaining that a California court has granted an injunction written and requested by Cayman Island’s Bank Julius Baer lawyers. It seems that the bank is trying to keep the public from accessing documents that may reveal shady dealings. Wikileaks was only given a couple of hours notice “by email” and was not even represented at the hearing where a U.S. judge took such a drastic step attempting to totally shut down an important information outlet. The result was this totally unprecedented attempt to totally wipe out the existence of Wikileaks:
“Dynadot shall immediately clear and remove all DNS hosting records for the wikileaks.org domain name and prevent the domain name from resolving to the wikileaks.org website or any other website or server other than a blank park page, until further order of this Court.”
There have, of course, been previous attempts by the U.S. Government and others to block publication of particular documents, most famously in 1971 when the Nixon administration attempted to stop publication by the New York Times of excerpts from the Pentagon Papers, leaked by Daniel Ellsberg. But trying to close down an entire site in this way is truly unprecedented. Not even the Nixon administration, when they sought to block publication of the Pentagon Papers, considered closing down the New York Times in response.
If this injunction stands, it will set an incredible precedent for all of us who use the web to unveil misbehavior by the rich and powerful. Fortunately, Wikileaks is fighting this unconstitutional attack on press freedom, aided by six pro bono attorneys in San Francisco. While Wikileaks has so far not issued any particular call for support, all who value freedom should stand ready to offer whatever support they need.
Meanwhile, Wikileaks still exists. Its founders, knowing that governments and institutions will go to extreme lengths to censor the truth, have created an extensive network of cover names from which one can access their materials or continue leaking the secrets of governments and the corrupt rich and powerful. Thus, everything is available at Wikileaks.be, among other names. Let the leaks continue!

I have to admit, I've tried many different power sources for my orbiting satellite death beam, and nothing does it like good old U-238. If you've never held an entire nation hostage for your maniacal whims (I always ask for my ransom in kittens), then you haven't lived yet. And this can make it happen!
