As usual SF misses the point: the reason no one shops on mid-Market has nothing to do with bikes or cars (as if any sane person would drive down Market looking for a place to park so he can nip into a shop anyway): it San Francisco's policy of maintaining that area as a wildlife preserve for the feral homeless. Why would anyone want to run that gauntlet to buy things that are on sale in much safer and more salubrious areas all over the Bay Area?
