Sometimes it's better if other people do it with Stern Grove because this is one of those San Francisco concert series that requires you to get there very early for a good spot. As in 6 hours or more before the show
So here is another San Francisco original band, the Family Stone --- Sly and the Family Stone history - Wikipedia
As far as anyone knows, Sly is still putting around his LA house in his pink bunny wabbit slippers

It Crawled From the vault #47
San Francisco rock legends Moby Grape, June 30, 1996, Maritime Hall, San Francisco, soundboard > cassette, appr 1 hour 26 minutes
some parts of this were previously on a compilation sent out years ago via Moby Grape mailing list, but this is much more of the complete show. There's also a nice archived review of this show
http://www52.zippyshare.com/v/60602583/file.html
Maritime Hall is across the street from One Rincon hill. It has quite a story as a concert hall from 1995-2001 and is one of the reasons why we have an Entertainment Commission today, instead of it being solely a police issue
The opening song, Hey Grandma, written in 1967, mentions Fillmore Slim - lyrics

Haight Ashbury Street Fair 2012 - The Tubes
The Tubes, live at the Haight Ashbury Street Fair, June 10, 2012
recorded with out of print old school mics that can handle the 120db+ just 20 feet away from the stage--they don't make em anymore! Recorded digitally in dvd quality at 24 bit/96 khz, direct to mp3 at 320+ kb/s, about 87 minutes
updated June 17, 2012. Finally a pretty good EQ. Apparently most of the previous EQ had some phase shift at some frequencies which makes it sound funny. This new one is pure parametric EQ and no phase shift. All of the previous attempts are at the bottom of this post for comparison
the.tubes.6.10.2012.haight.street.fair.mp3
http://www38.zippyshare.com/v/67526679/file.html
The Tubes are one of the best San Francisco bands, and since they don't play SF much more than every 10 years, it's important to try and get it right
the original recording to compare the difference. This was recorded purposely with bass rolloff to avoid overloading inputs. The crowd was also packed with people shoving their way through, so it gets jostled a bit

It Crawled From the vault #46
Merl Saunders headlined the Haight Ashbury Street Street Fair for 24 consecutive years. In April of 2002, Merl suffered a stroke just two months before the 2002 Haight Street Fair and was in the hospital and could not be there in person
The 2002 the Haight Ashbury Street Fair was without Merl Saunders for the first time in 24 years. The band that headlined that day was numerous musicians from Merl's bands including from Merl Saunders Funky Friends and his other bands like The Rainforest Band
This tape is made public for the very first time on the 10th Anniversary of this show. Merl Saunders jr explains the rest on the tape
Merls Funky Friends, the 25th annual Haight Ashbury Street Fair, June 9, 2002
http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/5824751/file.html
Musicians in this band include Merl Saunders jr, Tony Saunders, Vince Welnick, Melvin Seals, Carl Lockett, John Payne, Larry Van, Tom Everest, James Lebah?, Mike Lawson, Skip Mesquite, Lon Graham, Tony Saunders jr, Jackie Turner, Mike Mossa?, Martin Fierro and Narada Michael Walden - Corrections on some of these musicians with help from Mike Lawson, but apparently this show was very ad hoc and tons of musicians showed up as a tribute. basically a once in a lifetime event

It Crawled From the vault #45
It's the return of free form underground radio in San Francisco since it is now all but extinct in the city that pioneered it. It is a part of San Francisco history via FoundSF - Birth of Community Rock Radio: A brief history of KMPX and KSAN-FM
KUSF and KSAN Jive radio lives on in these tapes recorded in the mid 1990's when the original KSAN DJ's came back for two hours every Sunday from 1992-1996. KUSF in Exile has their own archives going back to 2005. The story of the 1990's KSAN reunion on KUSF can be found here with many audio archives from the original KSAN here. Two previous Jive radio tapes can be heard here and here
All of these tapes were recorded off the radio on KUSF between 1995-1996 during the Jive radio Sunday afternoon time slot.
DJ Michael Knight
DJ Vincenta
DJ Bruce van Dyke, in two parts - appr 50 minutes each. Bruce recently wrote about the recent passing of original KSAN commentator Travis T Hipp
part1
part 2
Two unknown DJ's. They don't say who they are on the tapes. If anybody knows please do tell
The famous 1969 KSAN Altamont broadcast which is included in the extras of Criterion's Gimme Shelter

San Francisco radio has gotten so bad, people are starting to organize and revolt. As much as corporate radio would like to wipe free form radio off the face of the face of the earth, it will never be suppressed completely.

It Crawled From the vault #44
The orginal undergound rock radio station KMPX and KSAN 95.0 FM, San Francisco, because so many people have forgotten what radio used to sound like in San Francisco
Rebroadcast on May 21, 1995 on Jive Radio KUSF, this is a 45 minute excerpt of Tom Donahue in 1969 on KSAN. It is not complete and is somewhat pieced together from 2 cassette tapes recorded off the radio at KUSF in 1995. This show is hosted by Rachael Donahue
Live and in color...
The birth of free form underground radio KMPX San Francisco
Lots of archived photos can be found on the Jive95 website here and a previous Jive radio show is here with more on the way! stay tuned....
