And next door you can see your tax dollars at work subsidizing crack dealers working and living in the Hotel Union. Geary and Hyde is notorious... not for architecture. And why is crack only in the TL? It's called graft and corruption. Be glad you don't pay mega bucks to live in The Castle and deal with human feces at your front steps. Seriously this is my 'hood and the Hotel Union needs to be shut down.

21 U.S.C. § 856 : US Code - Section 856: Maintaining drug-involved premises

(a) Unlawful acts
Except as authorized by this subchapter, it shall be unlawful to -

(1) knowingly open, lease, rent, use, or maintain any place,
whether permanently or temporarily, for the purpose of
manufacturing, distributing, or using any controlled substance;
(2) manage or control any place, whether permanently or
temporarily, either as an owner, lessee, agent, employee,
occupant, or mortgagee, and knowingly and intentionally rent,
lease, profit from, or make available for use, with or without
compensation, the place for the purpose of unlawfully
manufacturing, storing, distributing, or using a controlled
substance.
(b) Criminal penalties
Any person who violates subsection (a) of this section shall be
sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not more than 20 years or a
fine of not more than $500,000, or both, or a fine of $2,000,000
for a person other than an individual.
(c) Violation as offense against property
A violation of subsection (a) of this section shall be considered
an offense against property for purposes of section
3663A(c)(1)(A)(ii) of title 18.
(d) Civil penalites
(1) Any person who violates subsection (a) of this section shall
be subject to a civil penalty of not more than the greater of -
(A) $250,000; or
(B) 2 times the gross receipts, either known or estimated, that
were derived from each violation that is attributable to the
person.
(2) If a civil penalty is calculated under paragraph (1)(B), and
there is more than 1 defendant, the court may apportion the penalty
between multiple violators, but each violator shall be jointly and
severally liable for the civil penalty under this subsection.
(e) Declaratory and injunctive remedies
Any person who violates subsection (a) of this section shall be
subject to declaratory and injunctive remedies as set forth in
section 843(f) of this title.

The long version of the Bart protest on Monday, August 22, 2011 from a bike. Or what it's like to walk up and down Market street. There are plenty of short clips and highlights and blog posts and news stories about it elsewhere. This is the uncut long version, as much a test of lengthy video dump as an observer than anything else. There's more than an hour of video here with a few dicey moments, and it's only the part of the protest that went down Market to the Ferry Building, not the group that was arrested at the library. . There is one incident where a BART commuter attacked the protest and was himself surrounded by the crowd, but you can see most of it was peaceful and non-eventful, not much different than the thousands of other protests along Market street, except for a smaller number of more radical types overturning garbage cans













This is the BART commuter (red shirt and glasses) that attacked the protest near 7th and market. That attack is at the end of (#opbart.SF.8.22.11c), but is not seen because people were blocking the view. Other might have that tho. There were cameras everywhere as you can see. You can see in this clip the angry commuter is surrounded by cameras. Patrt of it is also continued on #opbart.SF.8.22.11d

Natural Act was a band that was started after It's A Beautiful Day broke up in the 70's. It consists of original It's A Beautiful Day members Hal Wagenet (guitar) and Mitchel Holman(bass), and Time Dawe, who wrote two songs on the third album and recorded under Frank Zappa's Straight Records label, and Ralph Benkus, the drummer. Time Dawes rare album Penrod is now on CD, while the only Natural Act album, Timothy with Mrs Pickens has never been on CD, but you can see the album cover and hear a song on Youtube. what follows is a fairly rare appearance with all four original members of Natural Act in 2002. Ralph Benkus lives near Berkeley and Tim Dawe is still a professor at SF State, while Mitchel and Hal live up in Mendocino

It seemed to be quite impressive coordination with smaller bands of protesters at various times at all four downtown BART stations between Embarcadero to Civic Center, resulting in the closure of all four downtown stations at different times. I don't think San Francisco has ever seen anything quite like this before

This is a message from Anonymous to the Bay Area Rapid Transit System (BART)

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE USA:
The past year has brought about some substantial awareness through some unfortunate events that have occurred throughout our world. From internet censorship to the unnecessary violence inflicted upon unarmed civilans, we’ve all seen what can happen once a portion of us are gagged.
In Egypt and Tunisia, we saw people struggling to make their voices heard. We have seen companies such as Telecomix delve into the nastiness of political corruption in an attempt to free those censored individuals from their prisons of silence. We seen social media such as FaceBook and twitter explode with users from around the world speaking out against censorship.
Today, we’ve seen America come alive. In the Bay Area, we’ve seen people gagged, and once more, Anonymous will attempt to show those engaging in the censorship what it feels like to be silenced. #OpBART is an operation geared toward balance - toward learning. You do not censor people because they wish to speak out against the wrongs the wrongful things occurring around them. The Bay Area Rapid Transit has made the conscious decision of ordering various cell phone companies to terminate services for the downtown area inhibiting those in the area from using cell phones - even in the case of an emergency.


To BART:


We will not tolerate censorship.
We will do everything in our power (we are legion) to parallel the actions of censorship that you have chosen to engage in.
We will be free to speak out against you when you try to cover up crimes, namely on behalf of those who have engaged in violence against a mostly unarmed public.
We will set those who have been censored free from their silence. That’s a promise.
Anonymous demands that this activity revolving around censorship cease and desist and we know you are already planning to do this again.
We will not issue any more warnings.


TO THE PEOPLE OF SAN FRANCISCO:


People of San Francisco, join us Monday, August 15th at 5pm for a peaceful protest at Civic Center station to illustrate the solidarity with people we once knew and to stand up for your rights and those of your fellow citizens.
We will be wearing “blood” stained shirts for remembrance to the blood that is on the hands of the BART police.

For the people outside of San Francisco, show solidarity by using black fax, email bombs, and phone calls to the BART Board of Directors. BART decided to cut off your communications and now we will flood theirs.

We request that you bring cameras to record further abuses of power by the police and to legitimize the protest. The media will certainly spin this in an attempt to make our actions appear to be violent or somehow harmful to the citizenry at large. Remember, this is a peaceful protest. Any actions trying to incite violence in our protest are not of our people, and they ought to be discouraged.

Part of the debate here focuses on exactly the same contracts that affect the same Tenderloin Housing Clinic. The THC employee is David Elliott Lewis who goes by ideaview on youtube.

It isn't just Chinatown non-profits that are entangled in the mayors race, but that some non profits are so heavily involved in politics now, who are directly benefiting from such politics, that all non profits should be required to publish a list of all employees and photos. As it stands now, it's perfectly reasonable for the general pubic to question if public money might be used for campaigning and the burdon of proof lies with the non-profits themselves to prove that no public money/time was used
