the burglar, at 149 9th Street, San Francisco (GFI Global Film Initiative) posted here 2 weeks ago has now been arrested...Very glad I could help via this blog and your video...sometimes it does work
(from GFI-who made the video and who's computers were stolen)
Hi everyone,
We’re very pleased to announce that the SFPD has arrested the GFI burglar! I’d like to follow up that news with a special thank you to the Uptown Almanac and Bluoz, who were the first to post the news and whose efforts sparked a city-wide response that eventually led to the suspect’s arrest. This happy ending would not have been possible without that exposure, so our deepest thanks goes out to them and and everyone else who helped spread the news.
The support we received from the community also made it possible for us to have a sense of humor about the whole thing—see for yourself here: http://blog.globalfilm.org/?p=1297.
Thanks again and hope all news is good news in the future!
Gratefully,
Hilary Lawson

and here's the video once again, .... *caught* and *not breaking in anywhere tonight*
A true legend in San Francisco and part of what defines the 'San Francisco Sound", Lydia Pense and Cold Blood is still a knockout. The band is on the famous Last Days of the Fillmore 1972 now on dvd, and does an unbelievable duet with Taj Mahal on the double CD version, if you can ever find it. Lydia Pense still has pipes! and the band was tight!. Outstanding performance on a rare visit back to the city where it all started for her
very lucky to have Cold Blood's latest show and for those that don't know it yet, the Great American Music Hall upgraded their sound system in 2007
Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, May 28, 2011, The Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, recorded at 24bit/96khz appr 71 minutes @ 131mb mp3
updated September 6, 2011, with new link and new EQ
>>>From yelp....Lydia and the band debuted when the Fillmore was at its peak as one of the nation's musical Mecca's. Owner Bill Graham was so impressed with Lydia's voice and the sound of the band that he immediately signed Cold Blood to his new record label. During the span of six original late-60's, early-70's albums, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood helped, along with Tower Of Power, forge their own specific brand of funk/soul and R&B which came to be known as East Bay Grease. That music still holds up today, proving that great music is timeless and will continue to inspire generations to come. Lydia Pense and Cold Blood packed the San Francisco Ballrooms in their heyday, but that was then and this is now. In the now, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood still fill halls with cheering, dancing, foot-stomping fans. Far from fading over the years, Cold Blood has flourished.
Here's a nice writeup about the current band configuration
and there she is.....a true survivor....full flickr photo set here
this is the best one I saw on Saturday. Started out of San Francisco State a couple of years ago and are on the verge of releasing their first EP next month
Santos Perdidos, may 28, 2011, Carnaval, San Francisco, recorded at 24bit/96khz
with Carnaval coming up this weekend, here's a more famous episode from Carnaval, June 14, 1987, San Francisco, where people climbed up on rooftops to see it
this is only the last 15 minutes of it...the whole show was just over 1 hour
There's not much reference to it anymore and many people think it was just a rumor. There is a few Flickr photos tho from MauroPPP
It's not there all the time, and now it's mobile unit 3, but all accounts say it's made 6th street much more civil lately, even if it is just for show. Special thanks to LiveSoma and SF Citizen for helping 6th street and getting more results than 10 government agencies in 10 years!
Barry Melton - Saloon, San Francisco, May 21, 2011
Barry Melton is still one of the greatest guitarists the San Francisco Bay Area has. Very few have chops like this. Wanna hear some real San Francisco rock and roll?. There's also anoher show from 1998 at the Saloon here
musicians in this recording are : Roy Blumenfeld (Seatrain, Blues Project - drums), Banana (Youngbloods-keyboards), and Peter Albin (Big Brother and the Holding Company -janis joplin-bass)
One note, this show is almost complete, but it's missing the last couple of songs done by Barry at the end of pt3 (didn't press record again-oops-about 15 minutes missing) and some slight bass overload in a few places in pt3, but otherwise turned out nearly perfect
This show isn't complete and there's a few mistakes, but it's also very rare and is not available anywhere, although you can download many other shows at Archive.org, this show has never been available until today. It's also a rare taped appearance with Peter Walsh (Seatrain) on guitar and the only recording with a flute player that I've heard.
preview > Mojo Navigator, 6.1.98, Barry Melton Band, San Francisco
Musicians are Doug Kilmir on Bass, Peter Walsh on guitar, Roy Blumenfeld on drums, George Husaruk on flute, Lisa Kindred, and Mike Persh (from Thailand)
The Saloon in North Beach, San Francisco, is the oldest bar in San Francisco
It's A Beautiful Day - June 12, 1998, Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco
the legendary San Francisco psychedelic band
This show was the headliner that night with Lydia Pense and Cold Blood (previous post) the opening act along with Country Joe (solo). This is a long and convoluted story, but to make it short, their former manager owns the name and only he can use it, not the band. But from 1993 to 1998, they won a legal 'stay' on the judgement which ended just weeks after this concert. They only played a few shows after this one in Poconos, PA and one up in Mendocino and never played again at the Fillmore. This was their last show as It's A Beautiful Day in San Francisco. Due to these same legal reasons, these original musicians cannot use the name "It's A beautiful day' live in concert, although David LaFlamme still tours with another band and plays the same tunes
THIS is the original band, or as close as anyone will ever see (photos courtesy of Rosie Wagenet with more photos). This is the band that played this concert at the Fillmore, 6.12.1998
Fillmore, San Francisco, 6.12.1998
We're pretty sure the Fillmore recorded this show, because they recorded and now have online the opening show, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, but for the same legal reasons, Wolfgangs Vault is unable to release this show as an official Fillmore recording (and unlikely ever will until the former manager croaks). However, (and even the musicians didn't know this until today) released for the first time in it's entirety, by two different audience tapers, It's A beautiful Day, Live, 6.12.98
the major difference is that I was in the back of the Fillmore with a good pair of mics, but a Sony D-6 cassette, while the other taper was near the front with lower quality mics, but with DAT digital deck. So each has it's own sound quality
two highlights and two samples of the same song, Bombay Calling, first one is mine near the back, second one is near the front (different audience, same exact show, same exact night at the Fillmore))
we hope this puts some pressure on Wolfgangs Vault to smuggle this Fillmore recording out somehow (their soundboard), even if they can't release it commercially :)
there is no other band from San Francisco that sounds like this and there probably never will be. The original guitar player, Hal Wagenet still lives in Willits and his website is here. Mitchell Holman also lives in Mendocino and even the drummer, Val Fuentes lives in the north bay
now you know why you rarely ever hear from It's A Beautiful Day, and might never again...but who knows...more info on my main IABD page which I haven't touched in years
It's A Beautiful Day, San Francisco, 1969
it was certified gold by the RIAA in 1969..It was one of the very few San Francisco recordings from the 60's that was certified gold
Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, June 12, 1998, Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco
Normally I wouldn't bother with this if a better version is available, but this is a rare chance to directly compare my own audience recording with a recently added official recording of the same show, now available on Wolfgangs Vault, especially since some people doubt the date is correct. It is correct, I was there and recorded it and it's the exact same recording, down to the stage banter. This was one of the first shows I ever recorded and totally screwed up the inputs, which means most of the concert is distorted and overloaded. But there's a few places were it turns out OK. If you really want the audience recording you can get that here, but the Fillmore official soundboard recording is much better, even if it's mono
BTW, this was not the headliner that night, It's A beautiful Day was, and Cold Blood is not only still around, they have a new live CD which is excellent and you can get that on Amazon. A true San Francisco classic original band

The Supreme Court, in an 8-1 decision in a Kentucky case, says police officers who loudly knock on a door in search of illegal drugs and then hear sounds suggesting evidence is being destroyed may break down the door and enter without a search warrant.
The U.S. Supreme Court has made it significantly easier for police to force their way into a home without a warrant. On Monday, the court, by an 8-1 vote, upheld the warrantless search of an apartment after police smelled marijuana and feared that those inside were destroying incriminating evidence.
and here is the actual decision from the SCOTUS website and it is the biggest story on Fark today
