Another fallen hero

This English as a second language teacher at Tamalpais adult school, Jack Liberman, was recently fired for teaching some English swear words to adults. Since it was adult school and after hours, it was kept away from Marin county's precious little snowflakes being groomed for a life of morbid boredom and insulation against the unwashed masses, who are likely guaranteed to swear more than anyone thought possible, just not in front of their parents

better yet, want to bet that the very same Chronicle that made news of the teacher who got fired for explaining expletives to immigrants will themselves delete the very same expletives in their own comments by morning?

As Is store

want clothes cheaper than the Goodwill?. This actually is the Goodwill but most clothes here are 2 dollars or a dollar. For some reason, you can usually find the oddest t-shirts you can't find at the regular Goodwill (or anywhere else). I guess Goodwill only puts certain types of t-shirts on regular display and dumps the rest here, so this is where you can find the really weird stuff sometimes. You can also call it The Ongoing Museum of Oddball Vintage Clothing too.

It used to be much more of a free for all where they'd wheel out the carts and you'd spend time in elbow fights with little old ladies from the Excelsior, which was half the fun. But now it's much more orderly and you sign up for a ticket and get your own bin. People who don't get a ticket wait and scavenge anything dropped on the floor. This photo is from last Sunday and shows how it's done now

United Nations World Digital Library

"The BBC is reporting that the United Nations' World Digital Library has gone online with an initial offering of 1,200 ancient manuscripts, parchments and documents. To no great surprise, Europe comes in first with 380 items. South America comes in second with 320, with a very distant third place being given to the Middle East at a paltry 157 texts. This is only the initial round, so the leader board can be expected to change. There are, for example, a lot of Sumerian and Babylonian tablets, many of which are already online elsewhere. Astonishingly, the collection is covered by numerous copyright laws, according to the legal page. Use of material from a given country is subject to whatever restrictions that country places, in addition to any local and international copyright laws. With some of the contributions being over 8,000 years old, this has to be the longest copyright extension ever offered. There is nothing on whether the original artists get royalties, however."

Randy Shaw - the coverup

this is pretty self explanatory as the entire case is explained in just two paragraphs. This is the first amended complaint against Tenderloin Housing Clinic, filed March 2, 2009 in Superior Court, San Franciisco. The case was originally filed in October of 2008 and jury trial is set for August 4, 2009
