I recently had a discussion about medical pot here in SF with a well known pot activist and the basic premise was the possibility of intruding on the rights of non smokers nearby. I have nothing myself against medical pot, and I smoked myself for many years. I once had a neighbor 6 years ago who had advanced AIDS, weight 90 pounds at 6ft, and I would help him get it, as that was about the only way he could keep food down, so I've seen that myself. But I don't remember him smoking it where it filled up the common areas either.
it just seems it has to do more with common courtesy along the lines of having designated smoking areas like cigarette smokers do, where non smokers can at least move a little down the street, you know?
update, here's a somewhat related recentrecent study for those who like to bust out the hukka bowl the size of a Volkswagen
I suppose we agreed to disagree, then again, well, it goes something like this

discussion about medical pot
THC screamers vol1
Here's an example of something that's been going on for years
the reason why they do this is because the Tenderloin Housing Clinic management refuses to call on the phone. It's not because they can't, it's because they won't. So what happens is all nearby residents, business, and everybody else in a 100 meter radius has to listen to this, day in and day out. Most residents have a phone, and if they don't, there's a lifeline phone for around 10 bucks. But Randy Shaw must make at least 90,000 a year, but can't supply a simple phone system to avoid basic things like this
as a result of policies like this set by Randy Shaw, and failure to enforce simple house rules, Rand Shaw has to appeal to other agencies to help bail out problems he himself has created in the first place. And again, it's not because he can't fix the problems himself, it's because he won't
Or, how Tenderloin Housing Clinic contributes to the decline of a neighborhood via incompetence
