I could not see what happened and I don't know what happened. Could have been attempted robbery or assault but the owner of Passion Cafe isn't looking too happy this morning..,...However they did catch the guy and held him down until police arrived. This is on Stevenson between 6th and 7th. Passion Cafe is refusing comment and can't talk about it right now
update, Spotcrime just listed an assault and battery on Stevenson at 8:15am, May 6, 2001 link. This is probably it, an assault and battery. Also thanks to SF Citizen and the unnamed people who got involved and held the attacker down. Also thanks a bunch to LiveSoma for mentioning it
I've lived near 6th street for almost two decades but things like this make me sad and ashamed of my neighborhood. The owner worked over a year on opening this place and believed in the Sixth Street Turnaround (Myth?).
While I have generally seen improvement over the years, it's not happening fast enough. Something drastic needs to happen to this corridor.
I called the I must admit slow responding police and ambulance. Ambulance lost on 6th street half a block away. This wonderful man survived, he's not running from 6th Street, he knows he is loved and some of us are there, here and everywhere for him and other good people. I am the light soled tennis shoe under the parking sign, the day before I'd been assaulted in an attempt to rob a penniless old woman. I don't think twice to help another person. I was one of his first customers, his staff has mailed me my complete wallet in the past after finding it in back of The Passion Cafe . This business owner and community leader is the spirit of San Francisco of old, and attempting to brighten a long blighted, frightening, hostile and violent neighborhood. The same neighborhood accusing our police of being so bad for doing whatever about the drugs. Lying was wrong, but bending the law to keep the law, is quite often necessary! I'm sorry I kicked the guy in the nose, that was wrong, but not the help I couldn't help but render. God lives on that block, that's why I walk through everyday on my Good Morning Route. The next day, I lost my place and my laptop and smart phone got stolen, yet when I saw him OK a week and a half later, perspective diminished my concern for my own losses, because it's life that's precious and nothing else.
